Mobile eCommerce Platform Design for Salesforce-Backed Startup

Goal

The project aimed to develop a mobile eCommerce platform targeting a niche not covered by competitors like Shopify. The objective was to create a scalable and customizable template system and visual editor for merchants to easily manage their online stores.

Challenges

As part of a small team, I was tasked with designing a robust template system for eCommerce apps and a visual editor that balanced flexibility with simplicity. Key challenges included ensuring the app was scalable and maintaining a clean, user-friendly design despite the complex functionality.

Solution

We focused on creating a clean, minimalist interface, emphasizing functional interaction patterns and intuitive user flows. The design prioritized simplicity, ensuring ease of use for merchants while maintaining flexibility for customization.

Outcome

Despite significant progress, Salesforce withdrew its funding, and the app was never publicly launched. However, the project involved designing hundreds of pages for both mobile and web, including:

  • Research and information architecture
  • Comprehensive UX, UI, and visual design
  • Interaction design and prototyping for scalable solutions across the app’s PLP and PDP previews
